Full StoryGibson Learn & Master Guitar Application – iPhone App Review
Gibson Learn & Master Guitar Application (Free) Version – 1.1 REVIEW – “An awesome free app for the budding musician in you!” I’ve reviewed several applications in the past that have different tools for musicians. While every once in a while you find a diamond in the rough, a lot of the free ones just don’t measure up. Well if you’ve been waiting for a high quality free app with features such as a digital tuner and chord reference chart then look no further! This app sponsored by Gibson and Legacy Learning Systems is both free and extremely useful! The app is fairly basic, but is just as beautiful as it is useful. The interface is full of classic Gibson decorative work. When you open it up it starts out on the “Tuner” screen. The tuner is probably the best feature of this app. By default it is set up as a chromatic tuner, meaning you can tune to any note that you wish. If you’d like to be able to tune an instrument quickly to a specific tuning there are several other options that you can choose between by touching the “Mode” button in the lower left corner. Along the bottom of the screen you’ll notice a menu with several buttons to take you to the other areas of this app. The next option is the “Metronome” button. The metronome is extremely easy to use. It has a “Start” button, a wheel that you scroll to set the speed, an option to turn the sound on and off and a button to change the time signature that it is in. The metronome is quite accurate and useful because it not only gives audible cues but clear visual ones as well! The next option in the menu is the “Chords” screen. This screen will give you a quick list of how to play a bunch of different chords. If you are a beginner you will really appreciate a quick access chart like this, but if you are not you probably won’t find any chords that you haven’t played before. Unfortunately there is not a way to see chord forms in different positions on the neck. With that said the interface is simple and the visual representation is nice. Of the rest of the features in this app, my favorite was the “Lessons” screen. This screen will give you quick access to some free tips. Some of the tips are aimed more at beginners while others will show you how to do more advanced techniques to help you find that sound you are looking for! There is also an ad at the top of this screen that will take you to the Legacy Learning Systems website for learning and mastering guitar. The system is a well known one, and if you enjoy some of the lessons/samples that you get for free in this app then it may be worth it for you in the long run! To sum it all up, while this is obviously a shameless plug for Gibson and also for Legacy Learning Systems, it offers some great tools that are hard to find elsewhere for free! Trust me, I have tried quite a few “free” tuning apps and found that most of them worked very poorly/not at all. If nothing else this app is worth it just for that functionality alone! With that said, whether you are a novice or an expert guitarist this is one free app that you really shouldn’t pass up. So what are you waiting for? Check it out in the App Store today! - David H

Full StoryNewegg Mobile – iPhone App Review
Newegg Mobile (Free) Version – 1.0.0 REVIEW – “Don’t waste time shopping for deals, let them come to you!” Do you like shopping for electronics online? If you do, you’ll know that while there are lot of good websites out there, that Newegg.com come is one of the more reputable and inexpensive options available. One of the best features of their website is their “Daily Deals” that offers all kinds of great deals that are constantly changing. Well now you can easily check them out directly from your iPhone or iPod Touch with Newegg Mobile! When you open up this app the first thing you see is the “Home” screen. The interface of this screen is very nice. At the top of the screen you see the current “Shell Shocker” that is available. If you’re not familiar with the Newegg website the Shell Shocker is an abnormally good deal on a specific product. Newegg negotiates bulk pricing on a different item like this every day! Below the “Shell Shocker” is a list of the current “Daily Deals.” You can scroll through the pictures of all these items by dragging them left or right. They all scroll across the screen slowly even if you don’t touch them though. To see a complete list of the daily deals all you have to do is touch the arrow to the right of them. This will bring them up with pictures, titles, and prices so you can get a better idea of what deals are available. The final option from the home screen is a button that will take you to a page of items that are currently shipping free from Newegg! The list is formatted in basically the same way as the “Daily Deals” list, making it easy to quickly find a great deal! The best part of this app is how easy it is to purchase items if you find what you want! If you already have an account with Newegg you don’t need to enter any of your purchase information, you’ll just need to confirm the little security number on the back of your card.

Full StoryZombieHunter [7DA] – iPhone App Review
ZombieHunter 7DA ($0.99) Version – 2.1.2 REVIEW – “Nonstop action and excitement with zombies!” There are a lot of big developers out there releasing high quality 3D content inside iPhone and iPod Touch apps and games. Well ZombieHunter 7DA is an excellent 3D game created by a small company and the result is amazing! Not only are the graphics inscredible, the game play is creative, fast-paced and deep! When you open up ZombieHunter the first thing you see is a short little movie and then an opening splash screen. Once you touch the screen you’ll be taken directly to the main menu. The menu is very visually pleasing and is extremely simple. There are four different buttons that allow you to start a game in “History” mode or in “Survival” mode, as well as an Options button and a High score list. Once you are ready to play all you have to do is select which game mode to start. In “History” mode you’ll have various different objectives and a storyline as you kill zombies. In “Survival” mode the basic idea is that you see how long you can last before the zombies can overtake you! It is important before you get started that you head to the “Options” menu though and set everything up the way that you want it. Something that I would definitely recommend is that you start this game on the “Easy” difficulty setting the first time. The controls take a little getting used to. I know what you’re thinking, “aren’t the controls kind of a make or break deal?” Well usually that would be the case, but in this situation it’s just a different case! The reason is that the controls are only a little difficult because it uses a kind of “dual-stick” method that I’ve not ever see in any other iPhone/iPod Touch games to this point.
