Picture Messenger Lite – iPhone App Review

Picture Messenger Lite (Free) Version – 3.0.1 Review – “An interesting free picture sharing app!” This is one of those apps that I had no idea what to expect from the title. It reminded me of some of the apps that you used to see before iPhone 3.0 came out and we didn’t have MMS yet! What I got when I downloaded and tried this app out was something entirely different. This app is loaded with all kinds of pictures that have a variety of different messages on them.

ContactsPlus XL – iPhone App Review

ContactsPlus XL ($1.99) Version – 1.0.0 REVIEW – “Take control of your contacts with ContactsPlus!” Do you have an extremely full address book?  Do you sometimes have trouble finding your friends numbers because of all your work contacts?  If you would like to be able to not only sort your contacts into categories, but also sort your contacts by a variety of different fields then you might want to check out ContactsPlus XL! One of the great things about this app is just how flexible it is.  When you open it for the first time you’ll be taken to the main menu.  You don’t have to worry about transferring all your contacts into this app because it just uses your device’s built in contact list.  Something that I have noticed when using other “contact” apps is that they sometimes had difficulty importing data correctly if it was synced from an exchange account.  This app had no problems whatsoever importing and viewing my Google contacts that I have synced to my phone! The main menu has a variety of ways to view and sort your contacts.  The main “Contacts” button takes you to a list of all your contacts that are sorted by last name by default.  Something that I found very nice about this app is that you’ll notice small thumbnails of your contacts on the left if you have a contact picture assigned to them.  Being a very visual person it helps a lot to have a face with the name.  This feature of this app combined with the Facebook app’s sync makes it easy for me to keep photos of people and associate faces with names! A feature that is particularly nice, and that people have complained about not having from the start, is the ability to sort your contacts into user defined “groups.”  By touching the “Groups” button from the main menu you’ll be taken to a list of all your currently defined groups.  To add a new group you just touch the “+” button in the upper right corner.  You can rename and/or remove groups at any time by touching the “rename” button or by “swiping” to delete. At the bottom of the main menu you’ll see a “Settings” button that will open up a screen with a variety of customizable options from the apps “theme” color to default search and sort parameters.  Where this app really shines is in how customizable it is.  It is extremely simple to make it feel and look the way that you want it to.  There is even an option to view your contacts using “Coverflow”! The “search” features are also a nice touch and make it easy to find contacts by all kinds of fields from first and last name to occupation, reverse phone number lookup and even things like nicknames and birthdays!  There are two different types of search, one that does helps you search by phone number and dial them, and another that allows you to search all the rest of the fields at once! Whether you just want a good way to keep your contacts separated into categories, or you want a way to help you remember all the little details, I think you’ll find that this app does the job quite well.  If you’re still skeptical be sure to check out my video demonstration embedded in this review, or download the free version and try it out! - David H

G700-1st Soft Camera – iPhone App Review

G700-1 st Soft Camera ($1.99) Version – 2.9.1 REVIEW – “A camera that works more like the real thing” I have used a variety of different apps that are designed to help you take better photos with your iPhone.  G700-1 st Soft Camera by Shiningworks Co. has taken an entirely new angle from the ones I have tried before.  Instead of trying to come up with a unique interface, or one that is similar to the built in camera app, this app has been designed to work more like a real digital camera! The load time of the G700 is very quick, and once it is started up you’ll be presented with what looks like a camera from the backside.  There are a variety of different options and settings, as well as a button to take pictures around the outside of the “screen” in the center.  By default the app opens up ready to take a picture, and taking a picture is as simple as pushing the large round camera button on the right side of the screen. On the left side of the screen there are four small buttons that allow to apply various filters to pictures as you take them.  The “flash” feature, while obviously not as effective as a real flash, allows you to add some brightness and contrast to pictures which will allow you to take much better pictures in low light conditions.  This combined with the “Anti-Shake” feature does a surprisingly good job of improving pictures in situations where lighting is slightly inadequate.
