Picture Messenger Lite – iPhone App Review
Picture Messenger Lite (Free) Version – 3.0.1 Review – “An interesting free picture sharing app!” This is one of those apps that I had no idea what to expect from the title. It reminded me of some of the apps that you used to see before iPhone 3.0 came out and we didn’t have MMS yet! What I got when I downloaded and tried this app out was something entirely different. This app is loaded with all kinds of pictures that have a variety of different messages on them.

Full StoryWacky Chatter – iPhone App Review
Wacky Chatter ($0.99) Version – 1.0 REVIEW – “This creative diversion will have your kids busy for hours!” I’ve tested a lot of apps over the few months. In my time reviewing apps I’ve come across quite a few apps that are extremely useful. With that said this app is not one of them! Whether you need a distraction for your small child, or you just like silly distractions, Wacky Chatter may be just what you’ve been looking for! I will say this right up front, while Wacky Chatter may not offer a lot of advanced features, what it lacks in depth it makes up for in ease of use! The interface for the app is all on one main screen.
Full StoryContactsPlus XL – iPhone App Review
ContactsPlus XL ($1.99) Version – 1.0.0 REVIEW – “Take control of your contacts with ContactsPlus!” Do you have an extremely full address book? Do you sometimes have trouble finding your friends numbers because of all your work contacts? If you would like to be able to not only sort your contacts into categories, but also sort your contacts by a variety of different fields then you might want to check out ContactsPlus XL! One of the great things about this app is just how flexible it is. When you open it for the first time you’ll be taken to the main menu. You don’t have to worry about transferring all your contacts into this app because it just uses your device’s built in contact list. Something that I have noticed when using other “contact” apps is that they sometimes had difficulty importing data correctly if it was synced from an exchange account. This app had no problems whatsoever importing and viewing my Google contacts that I have synced to my phone! The main menu has a variety of ways to view and sort your contacts. The main “Contacts” button takes you to a list of all your contacts that are sorted by last name by default. Something that I found very nice about this app is that you’ll notice small thumbnails of your contacts on the left if you have a contact picture assigned to them. Being a very visual person it helps a lot to have a face with the name. This feature of this app combined with the Facebook app’s sync makes it easy for me to keep photos of people and associate faces with names! A feature that is particularly nice, and that people have complained about not having from the start, is the ability to sort your contacts into user defined “groups.” By touching the “Groups” button from the main menu you’ll be taken to a list of all your currently defined groups. To add a new group you just touch the “+” button in the upper right corner. You can rename and/or remove groups at any time by touching the “rename” button or by “swiping” to delete. At the bottom of the main menu you’ll see a “Settings” button that will open up a screen with a variety of customizable options from the apps “theme” color to default search and sort parameters. Where this app really shines is in how customizable it is. It is extremely simple to make it feel and look the way that you want it to. There is even an option to view your contacts using “Coverflow”! The “search” features are also a nice touch and make it easy to find contacts by all kinds of fields from first and last name to occupation, reverse phone number lookup and even things like nicknames and birthdays! There are two different types of search, one that does helps you search by phone number and dial them, and another that allows you to search all the rest of the fields at once! Whether you just want a good way to keep your contacts separated into categories, or you want a way to help you remember all the little details, I think you’ll find that this app does the job quite well. If you’re still skeptical be sure to check out my video demonstration embedded in this review, or download the free version and try it out! - David H
Full StoryJet Ball – iPhone App Review
Jet Ball ($1.99) Version – 1.4 REVIEW – “This Brick-breaker takes things to a whole new level!” Ever since I got my first iPhone I’ve had several different “Brick-breaker” apps installed on it. There have been extremely complex ones that take things even a little too far, and also those that are just extremely simple. Jet Ball has managed to add a lot of little touches, while at the same time keeping gameplay extremely simple! When you open Jet Ball for the first time you’ll be prompted to sign in to the OpenFeint network. If you’re not familiar with it already this is a social gaming network that allows you to track and compare scores and achievements with your friends and acquaintances online! Once you get signed in (or choose just to skip this step) you’ll be taken directly to the main menu. The “Options” screen is very basic, but does offer all of the simple features you would expect. There is volume control for both the game music and for the sound effects. I found this control extremely useful because while the music in this game has a nice arcade feel to it I did find it to be a little repetitive after a while. The sound effects really add a lot to the game though and so I chose to just turn the music down a little bit, rather than turn the sound altogether off. At the very bottom is a difficulty setting which sets how fast the ball moves by default.
Full StoryBelly Bums – iPhone App Review
Belly Bums ($0.99) Version – 1.01 REVIEW – “You’ve never played volleyball quite like this!” I’ve played a lot of different types of games, but Belly Bums has to be one of the most unique ones that I’ve played. The idea of Belly Bums is that you actually play volleyball by bouncing the ball with your characters huge gut! The games are all single player and your player moves automatically toward the balls next location.
Full StoryIM+ Lite – iPhone App Review
IM+ Lite (Free) Version – 3.6 REVIEW – “A great way to stay connected for free!” Since Apple released push notifications there have been all kinds of social networking apps for messaging. Some of them have been developed for individual interfaces, and some of them are able to use several different networks at the same time. Obviously just having one app to handle all of your services is a nice idea, but most of the good apps are expensive. SHAPE Services is looking to fix that with their newly released ad-supported version of the popular IM+ application! When you open the app for the first time you’ll see list of different social interfaces. Setting them up is as easy as selecting the interface you want and entering in your username and password. Once you have all your networks set up the main screen will show all your friends that are currently online. At the bottom of the screen is a simple menu that allows you to quickly view your incoming messages, keep a list of people that you contact regularly and set your status. The status setter is nice because it allows you to quickly set a “global” status over all your accounts. The app also includes push notifications which is very nice considering the app is free
